Hello. Take Care of Each Other.

Hello. As I planned this blog, I imagined this first entry as an introduction—to me and my love for space planning, interior design and decoration. However, 2020 panned out very differently than expected for all of us. We’ve spent weeks—months, in some cases—holed up in our homes or anxiously working on the front lines. We’re in the midst of both a global pandemic and a historic period for civil rights. It feels frivolous to talk about interior design, so I won’t. I still hope to share with you more of the things that I love in this space in the future. But for now, I just want to encourage you to take care of yourself and those around you. Stay at home if you’re able, wear a mask if you can’t, and do whatever else you need to do to be safe and happy.

There’s a lot of unrest in the world right now. If you go out, show kindness and respect to the workers you encounter, but know that solutions to this unrest will require more than kindness and good thoughts. Find meaningful, long-term ways to get those who provide the services you use the resources they need. Learn about and support anything that provides workers with the financial stability, job security and healthcare that’s necessary to keep all of us healthy and safe. Learn about Black Lives Matter and the struggle for racial justice. There is no peaceful way forward without justice for all.

The world will reopen. We will hug and share each other’s company once again. As we rebuild our lives after the catastrophes this year has brought, it is the perfect time to rethink the status quo and begin building a new, better world. It will require that many of us think and behave differently. It will require holding our institutions and each other accountable for meaningful action. Sometimes it will be easy. Sometimes it will be hard, but these are attainable goals. We can make this world a better place. Until then, stay safe, stay happy, take care of yourselves and each other.
